About
Dublin
A city of lively pubs, Irish spirit and colorful neighborhoods situated
amongst Georgian architecture. Located on the banks of the River Liffey
in east Ireland, Dublin
is a city of fast economical and commercial growth while still maintaining
the essence of its Gaelic
roots and traditions. Originally a viking settlement, this city, and
entire country for that matter, have come a long way since "The
Great Famine" of the late 1840's ravaged the island and caused
many families to emigrate to America. This is a big reason why about
40 million Americans have ancestral ties back to Ireland. Go!
Dublin Tourism Guinness
Storehouse: A place to revere the most important beverage to some Irishman,
second to water. The price of admission includes a pint of the "Blonde
in the Black Dress" and then you sway your glass in the air and
sing Gaelic songs.
Grafton
Street: Pedestrian mall filled with shopping, street musicians, colorful
shops, energetic pubs. Stretches from St.Stephen’s Gren to Trinity
College.
Trinity
College: Found in 1592, at the time offered free education to Catholics.
Famous alumni include Jonathon Swift, Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett.
Dublin
Castle: Originally built in the early 13th century, the surrounding
moats, now covered over by new developments, were once filled by the
nearby River Poddle and can be seen on the guided tours. Advanced reservations
are required for admittance.
Summer is the most popular time to visit Dublin, thanks to the warm
weather and longer days (sunsets are around 10pm in June and July).
Along with the summer months come the increased crowds and higher hotel
and flight prices. The cheapest times of year to fly to Ireland are
in the fall, winter and spring, with St. Patrick's Day on March 17 being
an exciting time to visit. Click
